Structure. - Structural Design" seminar, where we delve into the world of structural typologies beyond the conventional engineer's perspective. Through the lens of built examples, we explore the intricate balance between form and function in structural design. Prof. Tichelmann and Manuel Calanni Billa are seeking a project that emphasizes form-based design akin to membrane structures or the iconic Berlin Olympic Stadium, albeit on a smaller scale. This session will also feature a special presentation on "Formfinder" software, showcasing its capabilities through various examples. Prepare to be inspired by the possibilities of structural aesthetics and efficiency.

Dr Christian Schranz with the institute is the host of this lecture. Dr. Bailin Deng invited the Formfinder Team to lecture at the course on  "Computational Design for Fabrication" at Cardiff University (School of Computer Science and Informatics / Visual Computing Research Group).
The content of this lecture is the eccentric design language and the "new architecture" of membrane construction. The aim of the lecture is a differentiated view of different approaches to the realization of membrane architecture. The individual solution approaches are highlighted and analyzed using exceptional examples. Finally, new technologies of the "membrane facade" are compared with conventional buildings.

As a part of the post-graduate Membrane Master´s Program, the architects Elizabeth Cohn-Martin and Fernando Artigas present the work of Roth Architecture. As part of the seminar, with the help of the new software: "Strategyfinder", opinions, wishes and suggestions of the Accumolis stakeholders on the challenges and future developments of their city were obtained and analyzed. In the area of architecture, it became apparent that the stakeholders want a sustainable, light, playful, beautiful and flexible structure for future buildings. Wood should be used as a locally available resource and there should be a connection to the historical center. On the basis of these results, the participants in the seminar under the direction of Dr. Robert Roithmayr, head of the “Lightweight Membrane Structures, MEng” course at the Department for Building and Environment at Danube University Krems, design examples for the future Accumolis construction method.
